The project
An existing seven-storey hospital renovated alongside a new 12-storey extension in Kota Damansara, approximately 41,651 m² in all. Hospitals are the hardest building type in this market to certify. Clinical areas are conditioned continuously, air change requirements are set by infection control rather than by energy policy, and the building cannot be taken offline for works.
What the assessment found
The central water-cooled chilled-water plant achieved 17.20 of 20 points, with permanent measuring instruments 2 of 2, instrumentation verification 1 of 1 and variable-speed controls 1 of 1. On a continuously conditioned building, part-load control is where the energy actually is.
Artificial lighting efficiency took the full 12 of 12, with lifts and escalators 2 of 2 including VVVF drives and sleep-mode features.
The envelope scored 12 of 15 on OTTV. Construction and materials performed well: Concrete Usage Index a full 3 of 3 and sustainable products a full 6 of 6.
On occupant wellbeing, which carries particular weight in a healthcare setting, thermal comfort in patient and clinical areas took full marks, as did post-occupancy thermal comfort surveys and the corrective measures that followed them. Staff gardens with sitting areas also scored.
Outcome
GreenRE Silver at 77.05 points under the Healthcare Facilities tool.
What stands out is the post-occupancy loop: comfort surveyed, corrective measures taken, both credited. In a hospital that is not a certification nicety. It is how you find out whether a ward is actually habitable.

What this building scored, credit by credit
Most consultancies publish a rating and a photograph. This is the assessment itself: awarded against available, criterion by criterion, so you can see where the points came from and where they were left on the table. Assessed under GreenRE Healthcare Facilities, HC v1.0, final result 77.05 points, GreenRE Silver (renewal assessment, 2025).
